Why I am running
As a Land Planner and Landscape Architect, I work on projects that create the places and spaces that people will enjoy for generations to come. I want to assist Jacksonville Beach to continue positive and smart growth that will similarly impact our community.
Collaboration is not only key in Government, but also in my daily work. I strive to meet my client’s needs, while working within government regulations, coordinating with government staff, and the surrounding communities.
My main focus is to enhance Property Values by making smart decisions on:
- Downtown Jacksonville Beach Safety / Continued Smart Growth
- Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety & Connectivity
- Updating Codes and Restrictions while preserving our Beach Quality of Life
- Properly Maintaining our Parks & Civic Infrastructure
Furthermore, I have a strong group of contacts locally, state wide and nationally through my involvement with organizations such as the Urban Land Institute (ULI), International Council of Shopping Centers ICSC) and City of Jacksonville Downtown Development Review Board (DDRB). These contacts can be utilized to inspire new and fresh ideas to the council, helping us make the best decisions possible.
My wife and I travel often. I believe that this brings an added benefit to the City. I often see how other cities have redeveloped while preserving the past. I look at each city and see how many of their unique characteristics could benefit Jacksonville Beach. In Minneapolis, we did a guided bike tour through the City. Between the parks, pedestrian and bicycle friendly places, this city is set for the 21st century. Minneapolis has gone through a significant redevelopment of older buildings into lofts, creation of incubator start-up office spaces, and farmer’s markets. Jacksonville Beach can learn from these examples.
Running in District 2, the southern portion of Jacksonville Beach, I want to maintain focus primarily within this District and for the residents who live here. I want to make sure that the Southern Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) is spending money wisely. Our park system, such as Sunshine Park, really should be a Gem of our community. Beyond this, I also own a smaller house on 1st Avenue South and want to see this portion of the City prosper, with historical and new residences growing up together.
After 10 years sitting on the Board of Adjustments for the City of Jacksonville Beach, I saw how difficult it has been for so many to develop and/or redevelop their personal properties, from smaller residential lots to larger commercial shopping plazas. It is next to impossible to build anything within this City of Jacksonville Beach, without getting a Variance (from a pool, to a room addition, to a new office building). This is not only a significant burden on us as property owners, but also on City Staff. One of my goals will be to help make redevelopment for the Citizens of Jacksonville Beach a more seamless process.
People would describe my personality as down to earth and honest. I strive to approach each situation with no illusions or pretentions. I am practical and realistic. I work with clients and the community to find happy mediums for all parties involved. We all need to continue to work together and move forward with positive change.
I am focused, primed and ready to lead the Southern District of Jacksonville Beach for the next four to eight years.
